College Affordability

In order to grow the middle class, we need to make higher education more affordable so that it is available to all Americans, regardless of gender, race, or economic status.

One way that we can do that is by providing student loan interest relief. That is why I coauthored the Bank on Students Emergency Loan Financing Act, which would allow federal and private student loan borrowers to refinance their loans at the rates that are currently available to those taking out new federal student loans, saving students and families thousands of dollars.

I am also a coauthor of the American Opportunity Tax Credit Act, which would provide an income tax credit of up to $2,500 for tuition and related education expenses for qualifying students. Bringing down education costs for our students and families will create opportunities for folks of all backgrounds.
