Women’s Rights

I strongly support a woman’s right to choose and have a long record of advocacy for pro-choice causes, from volunteering for Planned Parenthood while in college to authoring Supreme Court briefs for medical providers as a lawyer. In Congress, I strongly opposed misguided Tea Party Republican attacks on women’s reproductive rights. I voted against a harmful 20-week abortion ban and stood up to Tea Party efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and restrict access to health care. I also sponsored legislation to overturn the misguided Hobby Lobby decision by the Supreme Court. A woman’s healthcare decisions should be made by the woman, her family, and her doctor—not by her boss.

Equal Pay for Equal Work

Women continue to be paid less for the same job as their male colleagues. On average, women earn just 77 cents for every dollar earned by a man.  This is entirely unacceptable. I am a proud coauthor of the Paycheck Fairness Act to modernize workplace protections to fight back against pay discrimination.

Raising the Minimum Wage

Over two-thirds of minimum wage workers are women. Single mothers who work fulltime should not have to raise their families in poverty. I’m a strong advocate for raising the federal minimum wage.
