Dear Neighbor,
It has been a pleasure living in this community and getting to know so many of you -- as our children have gone to Doolittle, Dodd, and the High School together, as we’ve served on boards together, as we have worshipped together. This is a wonderful community that is blessed to have so many committed volunteers, parents, grandparents, and neighbors who enrich our town in so many ways. It has been an honor serving you as your Town Council Representative since 2005. On November 4th, I am asking for your support once again as a candidate for State Representative.
There are so many challenging issues that we are facing today: a struggling economy, wildly swinging energy costs, health care expenses and worries for both those who are working as well as for our treasured seniors. But I also know that we share many of the same dreams – a secure job, safety in our homes, a retirement with dignity and health, and a bright future for our children.
Though it is easy to lose sight of the fact, the truth is that more unites us than divides us. Divisiveness weakens us as a community and a nation – we are strongest when we face our challenges together, as this community has demonstrated time and again, and most recently (and tragically) to the world. We carry on that New England tradition of both independence and caring for each other. It is a tradition of which we should be proud, and which we should embrace.
We can do better, and we should aspire to build upon our common hopes and dreams for a better community and a more promising future. Although I do not always agree with my opponent, I do respect his opinions as I do all those who care as much as I do about our community. And to all of you who have taken the time to speak with me and share your thoughts and concerns, my special thanks.
This week, the campaign will come to an end. But our shared commitment to making Cheshire a better place will endure. I respectfully ask for your support and your vote to allow me the honor of representing you full-time as your State Representative in Hartford to continue my service to you and to this community. The challenges we face are great, but the opportunities are, I believe, even greater. And, with your support, we can achieve our shared dream of a brighter, better future for our families and this wonderful town.
Sincerely,

Elizabeth Esty
