June 16, 2008 - Elizabeth Esty Qualifies for Public Financing

Elizabeth Esty, candidate for State Representative in Cheshire, Hamden and Wallingford, qualified for public financing last week, making her among the first candidates in the state to do so. "I'm very grateful for the tremendous support I received from hundreds of people across the district who share my goal of bringing change and new energy to Hartford," said Esty. Esty, a second-term councilwoman from Cheshire, is delighted to have raised over $5,000 in small donations from nearly 200 individuals in less than one month, demonstrating her strong and broad support. She was the first Democratic challenger to file and be qualified in the state.

"Public financing is a very important step in ensuring that our elected representatives truly represent the people. I am proud to be on the forefront of this movement in the state for elections supported by individuals from our local communities. Public financing of elections allows for a renewed commitment to fiscal responsibility that ensures our tax dollars are spent for the good of the public and not special interests." Esty's main issues include energy, the economy, healthcare and good government. "I'm proud to be among the first few in the state to qualify so that I can focus all my efforts on going door-to-door and listening to the concerns of voters across the district."
